Flying above the clouds…

I read this Barbara Gonzalez’ (Learn from the eagle) article in the Philippine Star as I was sipping coffee at Jollibee after my quarterly blood check monitoring at 8am. After fasting from 9pm last night, the jolly hotdog and scrambled egg + plus coffee + the free paper was bliss! I am such easy to please.

In the middle of the article, Gonzalez’ narrates how she received an email about the story of an eagle which begins with – “Time decides whom you meet in life. Your heart decides whom you want in life but your behavior decides who will stay in your life”. Then it tells that story of a 70 year old eagle who reinvents itself after hitting 40 years. It has to fly to the very top of a very tall mountain and sits on its nest. There it will hit its beak until the old beak drops off and waits for a new one. Then after the new beak, it plucks its talons until it grows back. Then the feathers. Imagine the pain it goes through just to be new? And the passion to just do it . After the feathers have all grown back, the eagle stretches its wings and takes its rebirth flight. It flies again, hunts and preys again and lives another 30 years before finally dying.

Just like the eagle and as Gonzalez’ pointed out, we must let go of old memories, habits and traditions in order to take advantage of the present. And I say, let it all go. It is of course hard because you veer away with what is comfortable, of what is safe. This spells change. And we need change in order to survive. The email ends with “ Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. A positive reaction causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst, a spark that creates extraordinary results. When it rains, most birds head for shelter. The eagle is the only bird, that in order to avoid rain, starts flying above the clouds. Winners win by pushing their limits until pushing their limits becomes their norm”. Nice! Let us be an eagle! We change and reinvent in order to survive but most importantly, we rise above what life will bring us. Let’s fly above the clouds and over the rainbow where the sky is blue (ay iba na ata ito. : 0 Happy weekend people! 18sep10
